Houston Ship Channel near Texas City Dike (Transect from Texas City Dike to Port Bolivar) Galveston Bay Freshwater Inflow Survey, May 23 - 24, 2001 Velocity data was measured in real-time with an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) The velocity data presented below was chosen from three locations along each transect: 1) The Houston Ship Channel (Shp), at a point in the center and deepest part of the Ship Channel - that lies near the middle of the transect between the Texas City Dike and Port Bolivar; 2) The right bank (Rt), at the center of a deep area off the southwest (right) bank - near the Dike; 3) The left bank (Lft), at the center of the deep area off the northeast bank - near Baffle Point. Flow magnitude and direction are displayed for each transect location (Shp, Rt, or Lft) at several depths: V_.10 = flow magnitude and direction at 1/10 of the total depth below the surface. V_.15 = flow magnitude and direction at 15% of the total depth below the surface. V_.20 = flow magnitude and direction at 1/5 of the total depth below the surface. V_.30 = flow magnitude and direction at 3/10 of the total depth below the surface. V_.35 = flow magnitude and direction at 35% of the total depth below the surface. V_.50 = flow magnitude and direction at 1/2 of the total depth below the surface. V_.70 = flow magnitude and direction at 7/10 of the total depth below the surface. V_.85 = flow magnitude and direction at 85% of the total depth below the surface. V_.90 = flow magnitude and direction at 9/10 of the total depth below the surface. Date = yymmdd, Time = hhmm, TDep = total depth in feet at one location (Shp, Rt, or Lft) along the transect, Tot.Flow = total flow over the entire transect in cubic feet per second.
