Each line following the header contains the station number, date (yymmdd), and elevations (ft). Twenty four elevations were recorded each day, with the first reading at 0000 hours (midnight). Central Daylight Savings Time (CDT) is used in these records. Missing data are recorded as -9.99. Program tideplot.f - plots tides for each station. Input file is tideplot.in. Data file is tides.matagorda93. Generates metafile metafl.dat. Colorado River (T1) Several problems occured during the period of this chart. During the first three days the pen hit the top of the chart paper and reversed. The chart time was readjusted shortly before the actual Inflow Study and was shown to be fast in excess of three days over a 28 day period. After the study the readjusted portion was approximately ten hours fast over a five day period. The chart reversal was corrected in the final code. The clock speed was adjusted in two parts by utilizing a routine developed by Ruben Solis that applies a linear time correction and cubic spline interpolation routine to calculate the correct tide elevations. Lavaca River (T2) A good quality tide chart. Although it was repositioned twice during its period of record, the positioning did not appear to have an adverse effect upon the chart and no time corrections were needed. Matagorda Bay (T3) The chart was incorrectly installed as to the beginning time and had to be readjusted for the starting time. The chart level was also reposi- tioned just before the start of the Study and this caused the low tides to reverse when they hit the bottom of the chart. These points were adjusted as they were coded and entered into the data file. This chart did not require the use of the linear time correction program. Magnolia Beach (T4) The chart paper was incorrectly installed (reversed) and the float appears to have caught on a flange of the installation pipe for the first six days of this tide history. The chart was correctly repositioned at the beginning of the Inflow Study when it was discovered that at the original installation the noon line was mistaken for the midnight line. These minor problems were corrected when the data were coded. Big Bayou (T5) The chart was only a few hours slow over its duration. This was adjusted by utilizing the cubic spline routine developed by Ruben Solis, which was explained earlier. There was a period of approximately five days during the tide record when the float appears to have stuck. These data were entered as missing numbers (-9.99). rlw ************************************************************************ Subsequent to the Study, the tide records that were collected before the sites were permanently removed from the Estuary were appended to the record. This is their history: Colorado River (T1) The first eight days of the tide chart were useless, the float stuck. There were nine days of chart time where the pen hit the top of the paper and reversed. This was corrected as the data were coded. The entire period of record which started July 3 and was removed August 4 was fast by four days over the 32 day period. There was one other period in the middle of the chart where the pen stuck for about a day, these data were entered as missing numbers (-9.99). The clock's speed was adjusted using the afore-mentioned interpolation routine. From August 4 until September 8, a second chart was unusable and not coded. Lavaca River (T2) The first chart (July 3 - August 4) is a good quality tide chart. The second chart (August 4 - September 8) ran out of ink for the last eight days. An attempt was made to read and code the tide line but it may be somewhat suspect. Matagorda Bay (T3) The first chart (July 3 - August 5) had the tide elevation line incorrectly positioned, the float was sticking, and the clocked stoped on July 27. This means the time sequencing of that portion that is coded is suspect. The highs and lows are possibly also suspect. The second chart (August 5 - September 8) had a stuck float problem for the first four days and then did a general pattern, possibly never recording the highs or lows. It went totally flat line after August 20. Magnolia Beach (T4) The chart (July 3 - August 5) is a good quality tide chart. There is no second chart, this station was closed in August. Big Bayou (T5) Over the period of the tide record (July 3 - August 5) the low tides reversed nine times as they hit the bottom of the paper. This was corrected as these data were coded.
